Your First Visit

Patient Forms

Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you as a member of our family. We will request that you complete our patient forms located in the New Patient Center. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition, along with information about your lifestyle and the goals you have for your health.

Consultation

Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Danny Beard to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and your health goals. This initial visit is designed for Dr. Beard to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations, so he can determine how chiropractic care can help you meet your goals. Chiropractic is all about keeping your nervous system in optimal shape, so Dr. Beard will ask questions of you so that he can determine if your nervous system is possibly operating at a sub-optimal level. Since we aren't taught to be concerned about how well our nervous systems are functioning, you may be wondering why Dr. Beard thinks this is so important. The nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ, and system (including your immune system) in your body. If you think about it for a moment, you will realize that we actually LIVE through our nervous systems! Everything that you experience in your life, you take in through your five senses (part of your nervous system). You either see something, smell something, taste something, touch something, or hear something, and then that information is sent through additional nerves to your brain. Your brain then processes that information and responds to it. It sends it's response through more nerves to your many different body parts and you laugh, cry, run, hug someone, increase or decrease your heart rate, digest your food, secrete insulin, take a very deep breath, secrete hormones such as testosterone or estrogen, or do some of the many multi-million things that our bodies do. And our nervous system controls each and every one of them! Pretty powerful, eh? Pretty important to your health, wouldn't you say? Chiropractic is all about making sure that your nervous system is operating as optimally as it can. Optimal nervous system function cannot possibly lead to anything except optimal health. No wonder Dr. Beard knows that this is the most important part of getting and keeping you healthy!

Examination

If you are a good candidate for chiropractic care and Dr. Beard thinks chiropractic can help you the next step is a very thorough examination. In the examination he will be checking for a condition that happens in the spine called a vertebral subluxation. Vertebral subluxations disturb the proper nerve flow between your brain and all of your body parts and results in a nervous system that is not operating up to par. A vertebral subluxation is the most common spinal injury and results in a disruption to the flow of intelligence from your brain to your body; it interferes with your Mind-Body connection. If you have a subluxation, chiropractic will be able to help you and you will love what we do. Your examination will consist of 3 basic parts:

Insight Millenium Scans Thermal_Scan.jpg

Your examination will include a computerized examination called the "Insight Millennium Subluxation Examination." This exam is the best way to determine how well your nervous system is functioning. This examination involves several important components. The first part of this examination process involves reading spinal heat differences from one level of the spine to another, as well as from one side of the spine to the other. Heat is a by product of circulation, which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. From this we can see how subluxations may be affecting these functions of your nervous system.

SEMG_scan.jpg In the second part of this examination the Insight Millennium scans the surface of your spinal area for surface electrical impulses, and measures them along your spine. This helps measure the affect of subluxation on the motor nerve system and the affect subluxations may be having on your muscles. The importance of each of these tests will be explained to you at your Report of Findings. However, it is important to note that this examination helps to scientifically understand the subluxation processes going on in your spine. Using the Insight Millennium Subluxation Examination is much more accurate than just depending on "how you feel" on any given day.

X-Ray Studies

Spinal X-rays may be taken depending on your age, and situation. There are many reasons why we would not take x-rays on certain patients including pregnancy, most children, recent usable spinal x-rays and other various situations. Aside from these situations, x-rays are a common part of the examination process when looking for vertebral subluxations. X-rays give us important information including the position of the spinal bones, and the quality of the spine and safety of adjusting it. X-rays also tell us the relative length of time subluxations may have been involved in your spine. With this important information we can make a more accurate determination of the type of adjustments your spine needs as well as the initial frequency of your care. Your x-rays will be explained to you and covered in detail at your Report of Findings.

Physical Examination

Next in your examination will be checking your range of motion and various physical examination tests that will give Doctor Beard additional information about how your spine is functioning. Palpation is also an important part of your exam. Palpation essentially is checking your spine by hand. With this exam Dr. Beard can feel areas of your spine that may be involved with subluxation problems. Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone can also be examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxations.

Report of Findings

Your second visit will be your Report of Findings. At this visit Dr. Beard will explain to you everything that he has determined is affecting your spine, your nervous system, and your health. You will be shown any subluxations that exist in your spine, and what type of affects they have on your nervous system and your body. He will let you know whether or not he can help you, or if another type of provider would be a better choice. If he can help you he will let you know what your best course of action will be. It is at your Report of Findings that he will give you a care plan and go over any special instructions you will need to obtain the best and fastest possible results.

Chiropractic Adjustments

At the conclusion of your Report of Findings appointment, you can choose to experience your first adjustment. We utilize the most modern chiropractic analytical, and adjusting procedures and the most up-to-date equipment available. Future visits in our office will be focused on the reduction and correction of your subluxations and therefore will not consume very much time. Periodically we will perform Progress Exams to evaluate your progress and see how your spine is correcting and stabilizing. We will do all we can to get you to Wellness care as quickly as possible.
